Youth Connect Reading Club
Youth Connect Reading Club (YCRC) is a program powered by Youngsmart Development Initiative (YDI) to inspire and build young people to read, promote and inculcate reading culture to a larger society. YCRC will be a platform where young leaders connect, socialize, exchange ideas, read, and meet to review book or books which they have read in the month in view and express their knowledge, understanding, opinions, likes, dislikes etc.
As a youth focused educational organization, we believe that one of the ways we can build young mind is by exposing them to reading. Reading serves as a tool for mental renewal and mind transformation for any society or culture. A quote from Ray Bradbury says that “You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture, just get people to stop reading them”. Another popular quote is that of Harry S. Truman which says, “Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.”
Africa cannot continue to underestimate the role women play in advancing its national interest and quest for sustainability, peace, stability, and prosperity of the continent. If Nigeria truly supports the Sustainable Development Goals, then gender equality should govern not only the ranks of our defense service but our philosophy to advance true equality and equity around the globe. For gender equality to be addressed in the society, both must be involved and represented in the decision-making process, in policy creation and its implementation.
At YCRC one book or more will be read monthly in the club using the hastag #YCRCbookofthemonth by every members of the club from their different locations. The club will be having her book review hangout session virtually every month with her members across the globe with the aim of proffering solutions on how to implement the ideas which will be discussed, a member of the club will be appointed as facilitator or book reviewer to lead in the review process. The club will also inform author of the book by drawing his or her attention to the review hangout if need be.
If Readers are leaders because of the understand that knowledge is the key to success and reading books is a great source of that knowledge, then every young person need to excel in the position of leadership through reading. Leaders read books because they know this is one of the best ways to learn things they don't know and to reinforce the things that they do know.
